The Observatory, based at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, Swansea University, was established in 2012 as a collaborative project with local, national and international partners. We provide a forum for research, debate, education and knowledge exchange on human rights of children and young people, and work for the realisation of human rights through policy, practice, advocacy and law reform.
Within the project, the Observatory contributes expert knowledge in children’s rights and experience in implementing the UNCRC through domestic law in Wales in 2011. We developed a Children’s Rights Approach in Wales, a framework for working with children, grounded in the UNCRC to help public bodies integrate children’s rights into every aspect of decision-making, policy and practice. It encourages public services across the country to commit to the UNCRC and to improve how they plan and deliver their services.
